MIT ZIGGURAT

Buildings 1 & 2 surround the main quad overlooking the Charles River on the MIT Campus. Each of the limestone clad buildings is topped by a “Ziggurat” (a rectangular stepped pyramid shaped dome). NER engineered and built a scaffold with a roof to enclose the entire 40’ square structure on Building 1 to protect the building from the elements. Then, NER removed the existing stone cladding, and made significant repairs to the concrete structure beneath the stone. Once completed, NER waterproofed the structure utilizing a seamless, monolithic liquid applied membrane, removed the temporary roof and set new stone cladding.
