NER Construction is proud to sponsor this year’s Scott J. Procopio Gold Star Run for Honor as the Starting Line Sponsor. This 5K/10K race will be held on May 26th at the Saugus Town Hall. Now in its 6th year, this race was created in memory of CPL Scott J. Procopio, who was killed in action  in Ramadi, Iraq 11 years ago. A native of Saugus, Scott joined the Marine Corps in 2004 and he was assigned as a machine gunner with Kilo Co, 3rd Battalion, 8th Marines, based out of Camp Lejeune, NC. Upon returning from his first deployment to Iraq, Scott went back in 2006 as a machine gunner with 3rd Plt, Kilo Co. On the morning of April 2, 2006, Scott and 3 other soldiers were killed as a result of a remotely detonated roadside bomb. Proceeds from the race will go to the Scott. J. Procopio Fund, whose mission is “to provide educational scholarships and assistance to deserving members of area schools, and to provide educational scholarships and opportunities to the children, siblings and spouses of members of the United States Armed Forces who have been killed in combat operations”.
